How To Go Lighter with Gossamer Gear

February 23 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Join us for an intimate evening with Gossamer Gear! Founder, Glen Van Peski will be in the shop for a feature presentation and short film. He will be joined by Gossamer’s head of product and marketing, Jonathan Schmid, who will be on hand to answer any questions on the line, what’s coming, etc!
In “How to Go Lighter”, Glen Van Peski, Founder/Chairman of Gossamer Gear, will present the (un)critically acclaimed “Ultralight Makeover” DVD. Packed with thrills and drama, this professionally-produced DVD chronicles an ultralight makeover that reduces an experienced backpacker’s base weight by 75% before your very eyes. Following the 33-minute film, Glen will give a short PowerPoint review of the main concepts of lightening your load, review potential weight savings in “The Big Three”, discuss weights of food and water and demonstrate his personal gear as questions come up. Handouts will include an outline (he is an engineer, after all), a list of website resources mentioned in the talk (so you don’t have to try and write them down) and a copy of Glen’s personal gear list (base pack weight of under 5 lbs). The session will end with a question and answer period and raffle of cool ultralight door prizes.
Glen Van Peski is a native Californian who grew up in the western outdoors. He founded Gossamer Gear, a leading manufacturer of ultralight backpacking gear, and still serves as its chairman. Known for his humorous, information-packed presentations, Glen is an internationally sought-after speaker on ultralight backpacking equipment and techniques. He has been interviewed by numerous publications, including the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, and Footprints magazine. Dubbed “The Guru of Lightness” by one writer, Glen has developed a loyal following for his innovative ideas, and his commitment to showing people the “way of enlightenment”. He has hiked most of the California and Oregon sections of the Pacific Crest Trail. Glen has wandered the backcountry in Japan, and closer to home in the Weminuche Wilderness, Wind River Range, the Tetons, the Beartooths, and other parts of the western United States. His forays have included sections of the Continental Divide Trail and the Appalachian Trail.
