In the Northwest, with a season from October to July, Alpine touring, also known as AT skiing, has seen a considerable growth in popularity recently and for good reason. Tired of slogging 3,000 feet or more back downhill after your latest volcano triumph? Tired of waiting in lift lines?
No longer do you have to fight for that spot in front of the lift line to get first chair and freshies. AT skiing gives new meaning to the saying, “Earn your turns,” because your skis, bindings, and boots allow for free movement of the heel to enable walking uphill to the best possible lines.
You have the ability to blaze new trails and find your own lines and secret stashes. Just remember your beacon, probe, shovel and skiing buddy, and be sure your avalanche training skills are up to date. Or, grab some of our rental alpine touring gear or high performance alpine touring demos and head for the hills to soak in the crisp winter landscape.
