I wore the Brackish hooded top on my recent ski ascent of Mt. Bailey and it was perfect!

Review:

I was skeptical when I first saw the BlackStrap Brackish Hooded Sun Shirt, thinking it seemed heavy for a sun shirt, but looks are deceiving!  Although the weight of the fabric in hand feels slightly heavier than other sun shirts, it does not feel heavy on! In fact, it’s quite the opposite!  The light smooth fabric is comfortable against my skin and seems to regulate temperature enough that I don’t overheat in the longsleeve shirt, even in warm conditions.  Generally I hike in a tank top, and keep thinking I’ll take the sun shirt off and put on high SPF sunscreen when I feel too warm, but I have yet to feel too warm in the long sleeve! It also keeps me a little warmer on days when the sun can’t decide whether or not it wants to stay out, especially those intermittent overcast ones, when it’s easy to forget the sun is still emitting UV rays through the clouds! The Hooded Sun Shirt is also the perfect Spring ski shirt for this fact! It protects from the high alpine UV rays, and is warm enough to wear as my main layer until the windbreaker or puffy comes out!

The Brackish short sleeve Tee Shirt is similar in feel to the Hooded Sun Shirt.  I recently wore it while climbing Mt. Adams in very warm summer heat, and felt more protected from the sun at high altitude than I would have in a tank top and high SPF sunscreen. It was comfortable to wear with my backpack as well.

Bonus! The Stink-factor on both the Brackish Hooded Sun Top and the Brackish Tee is minimal!  I’ve been able to wear them each on multi-day trips without offending anyone!

Also great for mowing the lawn!

Who it’s for:

Anyone doing outdoor activities in the sun, especially on those days where it’s a combo of full sun and overcast weather when it’s hard to remember the sun can actually burn you through the clouds, even though it’s not *THAT* warm!

The BlackStrap Brackish Hooded Sun Shirt and Tee shirt are similar to the OR Echo Sun Hoodies, short sleeve Echo Tee and the Northwest Alpine Sun Hoody.  Although all of them are great, I prefer the BlackStrap options because they provide the highest level of sun protection in high Alpine conditions (like 10,400 feet on South Sister!), when the sun’s rays are the most intense, and I’m wearing SPF 60 sunscreen on my face! I also prefer the feel of the Brackish fabric over the others, it’s more comfortable on my skin.
