CURRENT CONDITIONS

The climbing season for Mount Hood typically ranges from April through July. Weather patterns in the Cascades can be deceptive, and Mount Hood is no exception. Sustained winds can reach up to 60 mph, visibility may suddenly drop from hundreds of miles to a mere arm's length, and temperatures may fluctuate by 60°F in less than an hour.

Choosing a weather window with relatively calm and clear conditions is an important first step in planning a climb. Most importantly, climbers should be prepared to turn back or cancel their attempt if they experience a sudden change in weather.
